Thanksgiving Tips

A plate of Thanksgiving dinner - turkey, potatoes & gravy, cranberry sauce, and stuffing

Thanksgiving is a day for giving thanks and enjoying a feast! Whether you’re spending time with friends at a Friendsgiving or at home with family, you can make some fun memories and eat some delicious food. In this week’s Stoney Ridge Apartments Blog, we’ve got a few tips for you on how you can better survive the Thanksgiving holiday!

Get Ready for Leftovers

Much like how the sun will rise the next day, there are going to be leftovers from Thanksgiving, so be ready for days of turkey sandwiches and other turkey related foods! Instead of having the same thing over and over again, try recipes that use leftover turkey from All Recipes. You’ll have plenty to eat in the days following Thanksgiving, so be prepared for the same type of meals for lunch!

Help Out in the Kitchen/Bring a Dish

Since there is a lot of food preparation involved, we suggest being of assistance in the kitchen if you aren’t the main cook. There will be many mouths to feed, which means there is a lot of food that needs preparing. Helping out in the kitchen will not only make it easier for the cook but will also quicken the food preparation process. If you’re attending someone else’s Thanksgiving dinner, bring a dish that will be able to feed a sizeable amount of people!

Eat Slow

Have you ever sat on the couch at the end of your Thanksgiving dinner thinking that you shouldn’t have eaten as much as you did? There is a tendency to eat a gratuitous amount of food and end up regretting it, so we suggest eating slowly. Eating slow allows you to savor your food as well as limit how much you intake. As a tactic, instead of focusing wholly on eating what’s on your plate, we suggest striking up conversation with your friends and family while you eat.
